What is autoslalom/autocross?

Autocross is a low speed motorsport that emphasises car control and handling over raw speed, with the highest speeds rarely hitting 70-80kph.The most popular type of Autocross is Autoslalom, which involves navigating a course laid out with cones.Only one competitor is on course at a time.

Most cars are suitable to run autocross, some SUV's and trucks are taller than they are wide, which is not permitted. If you have a question about your vehicle reach out to us here! You do not need a race car, autocross is more fun when you beat the race car times in a stock Mazda Miata! The car must pass a basic safety inspection - Similar to MVI.. please don't leak oil on the track..

What equipment do I need?

Safety is the top priority when running an autocross event. The course is designed to maximize safety, keep participants away from any obstacles and plenty of room is available if you happen to spin out.The real danger is your race car losing to your friend's Civic.

Membership of the Fredericton Motorsports Club is open to anyone.Anyone can be a passenger for no cost. What are the requirements and limitations on the car I can use to compete?

Cars must be able to pass a basic safety inspection. Suspension components, tires, brakes, seatbelts and any other components related to safety must be in proper working order. The battery must be securely tied down and all bodywork be securely fastened. The car must also not be leaking any fluids. Vehicles with a high center of gravity, such as SUVs, trucks, and minivans are not permitted. Vehicles such as motorcycles, ATVs, golf carts and other recreational vehicles are also not permitted.

How do I prepare for competition?

Check the fluid levels in you car and top them up if they are low. Check your tires to ensure they are at the recommended pressures and are not showing unsafe wear. Some competitors prefer to add additional pressure but this should be done at the event. Ensure your battery is tied down securely. Remove any loose items from your car, including floor mats. Pack a lunch. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. Bring your helmet if you have one.

I have a 1988 Topaz. Should I even bother?

Yes! You can have fun doing autocross in pretty much any car. Your goal should be to learn how to better handle your car and improve on your own times. Don't worry about what anyone else is driving or how fast they are going.

How much track time to I get?

We have a morning school session / test & tune, then afternoon timed, competitive runs.  Members are encouraged to join us for the morning, to practice their skills, tweak their setup, and enjoy the day - we've seen some drivers get in -12- runs in the morning! In the afternoon, we ensure each member gets 4 timed runs, and time permitting, will extend that to 6 runs, with runs varying from 50-80 seconds in length.  The number of runs is often influenced by the number of attendees per event, as well as weather & scheduling
